If you want to do as much things as possible during your short stay, that means that you will take the train loads of time. That’s why I recommend to buy a Pasmo/Suica card. Those transportation cards can be refund at the end of your trip. Furthermore, this article will explain to you clearly how all is working.

After the obtaining of your card, head to your hostel room/guest house, and deposit your bags. Then take a deep breath. Because you are in one of the most awesome city in the World, and adventure is waiting for you.

It depends! Wether if are more into technology, otaku stuff, video games, gastronomy or temples and shrines, your destination will be different. I will try to categorize it, so you can know what to do.

If you are into video games and animes, then you know that Japan and Tokyo are awesome destinations to fulfill your geek’s desires. Akihabara is of course the most famous place to do that. In Akihabara, you will be able to buy action figures, video games and retro-gaming. Read this article to know what to do here.

But you will find these kind of spots pretty everywhere. If you are into arcade, you need to know that arcade games center are everywhere. Huge ones like Taito and Sega game stations, and more “private” ones, smaller and way less crowded. You should definitely read this article to know more about it.

Temples and Shrines are definitely what I want to discover!

What will strike you out when in Tokyo, is the mix between skyscrapers and temples. It is normal to find some tiny shrines stuck between one mall and one game center. That is because of the ‘law’ intrinsic to the Shinto and Buddhism faith, that forbid to destroy any religious spot. So to get along with that, Japanese people are building around the temples. Anyway, those are the main temples and shrines to see here.

-Meiji-Jingu in Harajuku

-Senso-Ji in Asakusa

-Zojo-Ji near Hamamatsucho

-Sengaku-Ji (47 Ronin) in Minato

-Gotoku-Ji near Shibuya

If you are keen on temple and shrine culture, then get a Goshuin to keep a record of the places you had been to. Read this article to know more about the brilliant souvenir that is the ごしゅいん (Goshuin). Even if on a short stay, you should be able to visit a lot of temples and shrines.

I am all about fashion!

Takeshita Street

You surely have already seen what Japanese fashion is like. Kawaii, Lolita, Streetwear, Hipsters… You can see loads of different styles in Tokyo. But where can you buy them? Fashion has it headquarter in Harajuku. Huge malls, independent stores, expensive and cheap items. The best thing is to read the related article.

Museums are my passion!

It is obvious that a huge city like Tokyo has got a lot of museums. But on a short stay, which one are the best? Let’s see that.

-Science national Museum in Ueno (Website)

Samurai Museum in Shinjuku (Website)

-Seiji Togo Memorial Sompo Japan Nippponkoa Museum of Art in Shinjuku (Website)

-Edo-Tokyo Museum in Sumida (Website)

-Ota Memorial Museum of Arts in Shibuya (Website)

Those are the most famous and amazing museums in the Capital City, but you’ll see that wandering in the city is like an open to the air museum.

There are more than 160.000 restaurants in Tokyo!!! And if you can afford it, you have to know that Tokyo is the city where there are the most three stars restaurants (Michelin’s guide). You can try every dishes of the World in Tokyo! From Sushis, to French Gastronomy, to Kebabs, you surely won’t have the time to try everything, mostly if on a short stay. Follow this link to discover our articles about awesome and unique meals. If you are on a budget, don’t worry. Tokyo is one of the places where the food is pretty cheap. Great quality food. Even in the Konbinis (24/7 stores) ready to eat dishes are freshly made and cheap! You will eat very well when in Tokyo. That is for sure!

I just want to go to the famous places that we see in movies etc!

Nature and parks are the best thing!

Tokyo has got loads of parks. Some of them are considered as the most beautiful places of the World. You will sometimes have to pay 300¥ (2.65 USD) to visit one. Here is a list of the most famous and beautiful ones:

-Yoyogi Park in Harajuku

-Rikugi-En Park near Komagome Station

-Kyu Shiba Rikyu Garden in Hamamatsucho

-Ueno Onshi Park in Ueno

Is my Short Stay too… Short?

It is sure that Tokyo is so huge, that a few days won’t be sufficient to discover and visit everything. But at least, you could manage to do the main famous (or less famous) things here. And you can be sure that it will make you to come back as soon as possible!
